In 2018

Productivity and Innovation Week 2018 (PIW 2018) is a continual drive from its successful inaugural event in 2016.  It was held on 27th to 29th March 2018 at Toolbox.  The 3 day event was packed with competition, talks and exhibitions.

Day 1 saw PIW 2018 opening with opening speeches by COO / Executive Director, Mr. Kenneth Loo and PIW 2018 committee chairman, Mr. Sri Ganesh.  The afternoon was fun-filled with PIW Race, where 15 teams competed in a competition where teams had to construct a structure based on the given requirements and within the designated time frame.  This year, we saw the participation of 5 subcontractors.

Day 2 was a half day of productivity talks by productivity experts from the Singapore Productivity Association, Mr. Low Choo Tuck and Mr. Thomas Chia.  The information they shared with the participants were refreshing and eye-opening.  In the afternoon, the 8 PIW Challenge teams presented their products and processes to a panel of judges headed by our GM / Director, Mr. Eric Chuah, and the 2 productivity experts.  3 teams were then selected to proceed to the final round on day 3 of PIW 2018.

Day 3 and the final day of PIW 2018, we were honoured to have BCA CEO, Mr. Hugh Lim, gracing the event.  The closing ceremony was also attended by distinguished guests from BCA, HDB, MOM, Singapore Contractor’s Association Ltd’s Executive Committee members, fellow business partners and colleagues.  The day started with our COO / Executive Director, Mr. Kenneth Loo, giving his opening address followed by Mr. Hugh Li’s keynote speech.  Both speeches gave mention to BCA’s Construction Transformation Map (TIM) and the importance of productivity and innovation as part of the ITM.

Judging of the 3 finalists of the PIW Challenge was next in the program.  The teams were judged by a panel of judges comprising of Mr. Hugh Lim, HDB’s Group Director, Building Quality Group, Mr. Neo Poh Kok and Mr. Kenneth Loo.  The judges deliberated and the Multiple Height Working Platform from project Yishun N4C17 come up as the top winner, winning a cash prize of $2000.  2nd place went to Quality & Service Department’s product Automated Shoe Washer while the 3rd prize was awarded to Sophia Hill’s Easy Safe Adjustable Riser Platform.

The event saw prizes given out of PIW Race winners, 1st prize to Gold Eagle Yishun N4C17, 2nd prize to Kim Tiam and 3rd prize to City Vue teams.  Certificates were also given out to recipients of the Productivity and Innovation Specialist Course by HOD of the Learning of Development Department, Mr Chia Yeou Cheong.

“Innovation Today, Productivity Tomorrow” the tagline for PIW 2018, remains an aspiration as we continue to drive this initiative for the years ahead.
