Straits Construction Singapore’s Workplace Safety and Health and Environmental Campaign 2019 (WSHE Campaign 2019) held on 25 March 2019 at our Nexus International School (Singapore) project at 206, Aljunied Road, Singapore 389827. Straits Construction Singapore’s WSHE Campaigns and Productivity & Innovation Weeks (PIW) will run on a biennial basis. The WSHE Campaign covered all employees, subcontractors including those working in the worksites as well as those in the functional and supporting departments.
In WSHE Campaign 2019, the Straits Construction management demonstrated clear commitment and responsibility in ensuring no harm to our workers in the course of work and urged all to strengthen the WSHE Culture and implement enhanced WSH management system to protect, promote and monitor workplace safety and health in Straits Construction Singapore. The WSHE Campaign 2019 effectively communicated the WSHE goals to staff, subcontractors and workers so that everyone will comply with the same high standards.
This year, we celebrate our 50th anniversary. As we remember the foundations that built us, we now look ahead to grow and build beyond. The event for the WSHE Campaign 2019 was graced by Guest of Honour Mr. Zaqy Mohamad, Minister of State for Manpower and National Development, members from Ministry of Manpower, WSH Council, WSH Institute, Clients, Singapore Contractors Association Ltd (SCAL) and many other business partners. The event started with a visit to the WSHE Poster displays, followed by visits to the WSHE Games and Fringe Activities which included the Instant Photo booth and health screening for staff/workers.
The programme started with a lively WSHE themed opening performance and continued with keynote speech by CEO/Group MD, Mr Wong Chee Herng. CEO emphasized everyone must adopt a mind-set that can prevent all injuries and ill health at work and to step up efforts to prevent accidents before they happen. After the keynote speech, GOH Mr. Zaqy Mohamad, Minister of State for Manpower and National Development delivered the speech and wished Straits Construction’s 50th anniversary.
The theme for this year’s Campaign was “Take Time to Take Care” of your safety and health. This was officially launched in the Campaign. During the launch, all event attendees together with GOH showed the frozen in action while posing the mnemonic action by tapping on their watches. All the attendees were issued with a Health tracker watches at the time of registration. It was served as a helpful memory cue to always keep ourselves and one another safe and healthy at work, no matter what the situation is.
